Sauli Saarinen started as the conductor of Apollo in spring 2018.


He has been studying conducting at the Sibelius Academy with Petri Komulainen since September 2016. He graduated as a Bachelor of Music in May 2019 with honors.


Sauli has participated in several conductor courses where he has been taught, among others, by Jorma Panula, David Zinman, Hannu Lintu, Osmo Vänskä, Johannes Schlaefli, Leonid Korchmar, Atso Almila, Nils Schweckendiek, Markus Lehtinen, Arturo Alvarado, Jukka Iisakkila, Petri Sakari, Toomas Kapten, Johannes Gustavsson, Morten Wens Paul Niemisto and David Claudio.


Sauli has worked as a trumpet player in numerous Finnish orchestras, both in jazz and classical music. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as the leader of the trumpet section, first at the Vaasa City Orchestra and then at the Pori Sinfonietta. Saarinen is currently serving as the Deputy Head of the Trumpet Section at the Guards Band. He plays the lead trumpet at the Guards Combo, known for its performances at the Presidential Independence Day reception. Sauli is a board member of the Finnish Trumpet Guild in 2019.
